You gripped Drew’s hand a little tighter as you stood in front of your childhood home, nerves bubbling in your stomach. “Okay, so just—please don’t be weird.”
Drew smirked. “Define weird.”
“You know… you,” you teased, nudging him. “My parents already low-key stalked you online, so just—be charming. They’ll love you anyway though.”
He chuckled, leaning down slightly. “I’m always charming.”
Before you could roll your eyes, the front door swung open, revealing your mom with a wide grin. “There you two are!”
“Hi, Mom.” You barely got the words out before she pulled you into a hug, then turned to Drew, eyes sparkling with excitement.
“And you must be Drew!”
“Yes, ma’am,” he said smoothly, offering his hand. But your mom waved it off and went straight in for a hug, catching him off guard.
“Oh, I already love you,” she gushed, stepping back to take him in. “You’re even taller in person.”
Drew shot you an amused glance. “Uh, thank you?”
Your dad appeared in the doorway, crossing his arms. “So, you’re the guy dating my daughter.”
Drew’s posture straightened slightly, and you could tell he was trying to gauge whether your dad was joking or dead serious. “Yes, sir.”
A beat of silence. Then your dad extended a hand. “Good to finally meet you.”
Relief flashed across Drew’s face as he shook his hand. “You too.”
As your mom ushered you both inside, already talking a mile a minute, Drew leaned into you, whispering, “Okay, now I’m nervous.”
