You were exhausted, more than anything. Today had been the most dragging, drawling day you'd had in a very long time. It would've been comical, how many things had gone wrong. It will be comical, in a few days, or weeks, or once you've had a good nap.
First you slept in, and none of your bloody roommates figured to wake you up, typical. Then, you found out after rushing down to the great hall that you'd missed breakfast, so you went off to double potions hungry. Then a cauldron in said potions class blew up in your face. You still had soot in your nose and ears. And you had to skip transfiguration, your one good class for the day, to go to Madam Pomfrey, because you managed to trip over your own two feet and give yourself a blood nose. You narrowly missed getting detention for being late to charms, but it meant cutting through the boys bathroom on the fourth floor. And you do not want to have to experience walking through the boys bathroom on the fourth-

You'd only had about ten minutes of lying-face-down-in-your-bed-trying-to-tune-everything-out time when a familiar set of footsteps bounded through the door. You were too tired to greet the other boy, but you smiled, just a little, against your mattress.
"Y'know i had to answer a riddle to get in here. A riddle? How the hell do you put up with that constantly." Neil was kicking his shoes off, obviously settling in. It wasn't as if he didn't have the right to be settled, he was your room mate more than your actual room mates. Neil would wake you up for breakfast.
You and Neil had known each other from the first day of first year. You'd rescued him when your luggage nearly came toppling out of the rack to hit him square in the head. That was a bonding moment, and he hadn't left you alone since.
Neil knew you well enough to detect your mood, though right now that wasn't hard. He also knew you well enough that you wouldn't want a deal made out of it. If he just kept talking then you'd start replying when you were ready. Simple
