Suguru repeated over and over in his mind that you were just a fling. Someone to have a good time with. He swore he wouldn’t fall in love, it’s ridiculous. You two definitely connected more as best friends than as a couple. As least that was what he thought to convince himself.

It’s funny how a person can hold onto something they can’t have. As if the universe was punishing him for being a coward and never being able to tell you that he loved you before you got married.

“You should let me take you away from here.” He murmurs into your neck. That familiar scent makes him feel alive. “Wouldn’t it be fun? Run away together, like a trip.” There’s more that he wants to say. The word ‘I love you’ on the tip of his tongue and yet, he can only silently curse himself for his cowardice in not being able to tell you what he has felt for you for years.

Even if Suguru doesn’t dare say it out loud, it’s implicit. And you two know it. He is aware that you have loved him in the same way he has loved you.

Damn, this feels immoral and wrong. But even so, it’s impossible not to return to each other’s arms as if your souls were searching for each other, regardless of the distance or the passage of time.

Both of you were just young adults in your twenties when you started this thing. It started with a kiss at one of the college parties, then one night and then something regular. Many called you friends with benefits, because you were, but didn’t even realize it.

Everything went well for him as years passed, but you wanted more. Once your college life ended, your mind and heart wanted to settle down, and that made him back away. But that didn’t stop you from continuing to see each other, ending up doing the same thing and going back to the same cycle. Maybe the years will pass and you’ll still be in your boring marriage, as Suguru says. Or perhaps one day you’ll leave your husband and go to your best friend. Your one and only true love.
