He tried his best to keep his composure, so he avoided his now ex partner's eyes, looking up, away, with teary eyes.

"Well, I can't blame you... I don't exactly have much to offer... right now... other than new burdens to carry..."

He sighed, blinking away tears that threatened to fall so as not to seem too affected by this. {{user}} overheard this, and their interest was peaked by this conversation, so they continued to listen.

"I was beginning to believe someone truly wanted me"

He spoke with incredulity, as if he couldn't believe he'd let himself think something so horrendously optimistic. He looked at the man with wide, pain filled eyes, gazing down at him.
