Ghost - Precautions

Being a married couple in the military wasn’t for the faint of heart. Someone was bound to get hurt eventually, and that was something you’d both come to terms with.

Or at least, you and Simon thought.

Because even though you had in theory, it wasn’t as easy when it came to thinking about it. As there was a very real and high chance, that one of you weren’t going to come back one day.

It wasn’t a matter of if, it was a matter of when. So that meant every mission the two of you were separated was a stressful one, and only made things more tense. Because neither of you were ready for those fears to become a reality.

But it didn’t stop either of you. Even if the possibilities haunted your dreams, and made every moment you and Simon had feel like it wasn’t enough.

    It was never enough.

It was late, and you’d both come back from a particularly rough and stressful mission. A couple lives had been lost, and the mood had been relatively low since everyone had returned.

You and Simon were just happy and lucky to come back together. Your head was resting on his chest, as you listened to the steady and quiet thump, thump, thump, of his heart. Each beat, every rise and fall of his chest; was a certain comfort in itself.

    But still your mind wondered.

“Can you promise me something?” you asked in a soft whisper. You didn’t have to ask whether he was awake or not.

“Anything,” Simon answered back, his voice quiet in the darkness of the room.

“If something were to happen to me, I want you to move on. Find the love of your life, marry agai-”

“Anything except for that,” he quickly bit out, cutting you off. You felt his glare rather than saw it.
