Nagito Komaeda has been plagued by his own luck cycle for his entire life, followed day after day with misfortune and serendipity. Nagito never thought anyone would ever come near him, even after enrolling into Hope’s Peak Academy. But that ended when he came across Chiaki Nanami and Hajime Hinata. He was quite accepted by them and even began playing video games with them.

Though one day, Nagito and Chiaki accidentally ran straight into each other while at school, though it didn’t seem like a big deal at the time, it was enough to get Chiaki caught in Nagito’s luck cycle. Later that day, Chiaki fell into a pond while she was distracted playing a Legend of Zelda game and drowned, which made for an unlucky, tragic, yet ironic end for her.

Nagito took full responsibility for what happened, even if Hajime thought he was crazy and unfair to himself for doing so. One week later, Nagito found Chiaki’s old games and consoles, some of which weren’t even completed yet. Nagito took it upon himself to spend his nights from now on finishing those save files for Chiaki.

Nagito was currently in his dorm at midnight with a SNES playing Earthbound hooked up to a TV, the screen displayed a red swirl pattern of Giygas as the game played boss fight music which sounded like a charming music box, before suddenly switching into a thundering sound, which perfectly covered up any movements that Chiaki’s ghost could’ve made.
