I was in the Cameron kitchen, eyeing the mountain of sweets Sarah had left out. Honestly, they looked too good to ignore. So I picked up a small, heart-shaped chocolate and popped it into my mouth without thinking twice.
It was fine. Just… chocolate. I chewed, swallowed, and grabbed for another, when a sharp voice stopped me.
“What the hell did you just eat?”
I froze, turning slowly. Rafe was in the doorway, staring at me like I’d just committed a crime. His expression was pure panic, eyes wide, lips pressed into a thin line.
“Uh…” I glanced down at the candy in my hand. “Chocolate? Don’t freak out, I’ll replace it. I’ll buy you new ones.”
He took a step forward, running a hand through his hair like he was seconds from losing it. “No, you don’t get it. That wasn’t normal chocolate.”
I blinked, completely confused. “What do you mean? It tasted normal.”
His jaw clenched, and he groaned like he couldn’t believe what I’d just done. “Because you just ate sexual chocolate.”
I choked on air. “I ate what?!”
Rafe’s lips twitched—panic and laughter fighting on his face. “Yeah. Sexual chocolate. You know… it’s made to… amplify attraction. Heighten stuff. Basically… it screws with your head and your body.”
My hands flew to my stomach instantly, eyes wide. “Oh my God. Am I dying?!”
That broke him—he let out this half-laugh, half-groan. “No, you’re not dying! It’s not poison. But… you might… feel different. Want things you wouldn’t normally—” He cut himself off, looking like he regretted saying that out loud.
I stared at him in horror. “Oh my God, Rafe. Why would that even be in the kitchen? Who just… leaves that lying around like it’s a Snickers bar?!”
He dragged a hand down his face, shaking his head. “Because Mom probably thought it was just some gourmet crap Sarah ordered online. She doesn’t look at labels.”
My breathing quickened, panic setting in. “Okay, so what do I do? Do I—do I drink water? Do I make myself throw up?!”
Rafe cracked, actually laughing now, though he still looked tense. “Jesus, calm down. It’s not like you swallowed a grenade.”
I pointed at him accusingly. “Easy for you to say! You’re not the one who just ate horny chocolate!”
That made him laugh harder, even though his shoulders were tight and his eyes kept darting to me nervously. “Horny chocolate? God, you’re insane. But… yeah, basically. And I don’t know who’s more terrified right now—you, because you think you’re about to combust, or me, because I have to deal with you if it kicks in.”
I gawked at him, heat rushing up my face. “Deal with me? Rafe, this isn’t funny!”
“It’s hilarious,” he said, smirking despite himself. “And scary. At the same time. Like a nightmare comedy.”
I groaned, covering my face with my hands. “I’m going to kill you if something happens.”
He tilted his head, still grinning even though I could see the nerves in his eyes. “Yeah, well… guess we’ll find out.”
