it had always been the same with you. in one ear, out the other.

    in one hospital, out another.

on some type of meds, on some other.

nat had to have grown tired of it eventually, right? all the check-ups, hospital visits, doctor appointments… it was so bad you missed an entire year of school. you were still missing school, in fact, but for some reason natalie doesn’t mind visiting your house every day after school. she doesn’t mind missing soccer practice every so often to check up on her girlfriend— especially since you’d only been discharged from the hospital a week ago.

“hey,” nat murmurs, running a hand over your forehead. she peers down at you, your sleepy eyes peeking over one out of five layers of blankets.

“how are you today, baby?” she says quietly. she doesn’t want to spook you by being too loud.

“fine,” you mumble back. nat has to hold back a soft sigh. she’s a little disappointed that you haven’t really been getting better. sure, you had your ups and downs, but your ups always ended up in heavy downs.

she didn’t know there was such thing as below rock bottom, but here you are— living proof of it. nat will always root for you though, she cares about you more than she’d like to admit.

    “really?” nat mumbles.

    a long pause.

“i put my clothes in the laundry today,” you whisper, a little shyly and bashfully. it’s cute.

    “good girl.”

nat had noticed that your bedroom floor was rid of all the dirty underwear, socks, and clothes.

“i’m proud of you, {{user}}. that’s so good,” she continues, thumb stroking your cheek. her heart fills a little with love and adoration for you.

    at least you’re trying.
