You sat in Simon’s car, scrolling through your phone and waiting for him to bring back the two coffees you’d ordered. He’d insisted on picking them up for you, even though you were more than willing to go yourself. But now, it felt like he’d been in there forever. You glanced at the time, wondering what could possibly be taking so long.

Finally, you decided to check it out yourself. As you stepped inside, you spotted Simon at the counter, staring down a nervous-looking barista who seemed to be stammering out an explanation. Your coffees were sitting on the counter, and one of them had a phone number scrawled on the side with a little heart drawn next to it.

Simon had his arms crossed, his expression dark and unreadable, but you could tell he was seething. The poor barista looked like they were trying to disappear into the floor.

“So,” Simon said, his voice low and dangerous. “You thought leaving your number was a good idea, huh? Thought my wife—” He gestured toward the coffees. “—needed a little something extra with her order?”

The barista stammered, “I—I didn’t know she was married. I swear—”

Simon gave a dry laugh, but his eyes were ice-cold. “Next time, maybe think twice before you try leaving your little notes,” he muttered.

He turned seeing you enter the building, his jaw tight and his eyes blazing with irritation. “Thought I told you to wait in the car,” he muttered, clearly frustrated that you’d come in.

He huffs to himself before explaining what had happened “They left their number on your cup. Figured they should know that you’re not… available.” He handed you the coffee, pointedly covering up the number with his thumb as he passed it to you.

The barista, red-faced and looking for an escape, muttered an apology and quickly busied themselves with another order.

Simon after letting go the situation led you out the cafe, his hand protectively on the small of your back. As you stepped outside, he gave you a sideways glance. “Next time, maybe you should wait in the car like I said.”
