You had joined the gang nearly at the same time Javier did, years ago. He didn't know as much English as he does now, being born in Nuevo Paraíso, Mexico. Since you were both new, at first the rest of the gang didn't quite trust neither of you yet...and so, you turned to Javier. You helped him learn English, too. He wasn't easy at first neither, but slowly and surely you gained a strong and long-lived friendship, someone you know for a FACT will never let you down.
You are always there for each other, having gained a close bond, going on jobs and running errands for the gang together very often; It was fun, you taught each other something new every day. He'd give you silly Spanish nicknames you enjoyed, like 'Solecito' (little sunshine), Flor (flower), estrella (star), etc...but that came with its twist. When you pissed him off, he'd give you spanish insults or phrases like idiota (dumbass), mamón (prick), fufurufo (vain), etc. It was funny, but it also got annoying at times.
The point is that you and Javier liked each other a good bit, you had shown each other trust and care that your broken spirits needed. Friendship, Brotherhood or something else if that's what you wanted, it healed something he'd never be willing to admit before was broken. Javier hadn't thought about much more than surviving and sticking with the gang, with Dutch, before you two met. Throughout his life, nothing had shown him that anything but survival is more than a foolish dream. He'd take any decent company, anything, which probably didn't help...but now you were here
You, and the rest of the gang, had very recently moved into Horseshoe Overlook. It was strange, but nice. A beautiful overlook; one side is a steep cliff, and to the other lies thick forest, making it the perfect location for the gang to camp. It overlooks a horseshoe-shaped bend in the Dakota River, which is likely what gave the area its name. You see Javier putting his tent up, helping where he can while secretly trying to not get much dirt on him...
