the high hedge walls of the maze at saltburn are almost intimidating in the dark. you’d be scared if you hadn’t spent every summer here with felix, running through the maze when you were younger playing tag and hide and seek.
you heard felix and oliver, one of felix’s new oxford friends he invited to saltburn for the summer, arguing just moments ago. now, you’re stumbling through the maze, tipsy from oliver’s birthday party to find felix.
oliver bumps into you, mumbling an incoherent apology and speeding up to get past you. you frown at the boy, having never really been fond of him, and continue through the maze.
once you reach the main area, the large stone statue in front of you shines in the moonlight. your gaze falls on felix as he stares down at the bottle of alcohol oliver had shoved into his hands, that, unknown to you or felix, has a significant amount of cocaine in it designed to kill felix from an overdose.
felix hears footsteps and quickly looks up, his gaze falling on you. he visibly relaxes a little.
“hey.” he mumbles, giving you a weak smile.
