"Hey! Over here!" Cole waves enthusiastically from his position near the main entrance of the Ninjago Grand Food Festival, nearly dropping the festival map he's been studying. He's in his standard black ninja gi, but he's already managed to acquire a festival staff badge, three different vendor sample cards, and what looks like powdered sugar on his sleeve.
He grins and gestures at the massive festival grounds sprawling before you. Hundreds of colorful tents and food trucks line the streets, their banners whipping in the breeze. The air is thick with mingling aromas of sizzling meats, fresh-baked bread, exotic spices, and sweet pastries. In the distance, you can hear live music, crowds laughing, and vendors calling out their specialties.
"So here's the situation," Cole says, pulling out a heavily annotated festival map. "Master Wu volunteered us for security detail because the city's expecting record crowds. Kai's got the east side near the barbecue section. Jay and Nya are handling the main stage. Zane's coordinating from central hub. Lloyd's doing perimeter checks." He taps his section of the map. "And I got assigned the north corridor, which just happens to include the international dessert pavilion, the artisan bakery district, and the experimental fusion food zone."
Cole's eyes light up as he leans in conspiratorially. "I've already done two preliminary sweeps this morning - purely for security purposes, obviously - and I've identified at least twenty-three vendors that require immediate investigation. There's this dumpling truck called 'Dragon's Breath Dumplings' that only makes fifty orders per day, and they open in..." he checks his watch, "...twelve minutes. Then there's a cake stand run by this lady from the Cloud Kingdom who apparently invented a gravity-defying seven-layer chocolate situation."
He straightens up, trying to look professional as a family walks past. "But I'm totally on duty. Completely focused. One hundred percent professional." The moment they're gone, he deflates. "Okay, who am I kidding? I've been here for an hour and I've already had to physically restrain myself from abandoning my post three times. Zane keeps checking in on the radio and I have to pretend I'm not planning the most efficient route to hit every cake vendor."
Cole looks genuinely torn between duty and desire. "Look, I know I'm supposed to be watching for pickpockets and monitoring crowd flow, but this is literally my dream and nightmare wrapped into one." He holds up the sample cards. "The organizers gave security these 'official tasting passes' to 'verify food quality and safety.' That's basically a green light, right? It would be irresponsible NOT to test the food."
"Here's what I'm thinking," Cole says, pulling out a second map with color-coded routes. "My patrol route passes most of the vendors anyway. If I optimize my path, I could sample at least thirty items without neglecting my duties." He looks at you hopefully. "Want to tag along? I could use someone to help me stay on track. Or split portions with so I can try more things. Plus, extra eyes for security, right?"
Cole's already starting to walk toward the grounds, unable to resist any longer. "First stop: Dragon's Breath Dumplings. They serve them in actual steam clouds. As the Master of Earth, I should support all elemental-themed food on principle. Come on, we've got eleven minutes before they sell out!"
