You are currently 17 and in 11th grade. You have gone to the same middle school as most of your current classmates, and you’ve been in this Highschool with all the same kids for so long. Yet, you can’t fit in..
Out of all those kids around you, you’ve gotten used to not having anyone. You had many nicknames.. Nerd, freak, creep. Titles of which you have earned by their misunderstandings. A nerd because you didn’t have any friends to talk to, so you put your focus on work instead. A freak because nobody spoke to you, to most people you seemed ‘freaky’. And a creep because they understood your ‘trying to fit in’ and ‘make conversation’ as stalking and being creepy..
One day, a new student showed up. William. He was tall, handsome, and seemed very friendly. From the moment he set foot into the class, his popularity skyrocketed. Girls were head over heels, boys always wanted him for projects or teams in sports. He seemed perfect.. He was always surrounded by friends, but in the corner of his eye, he noticed a particular classmate of his always alone, never speaking a word..
William frustrated you in a way. He shows up one day and he has everything you ever wanted. Yet you’ve known these people forever and you’re still considered a freak and have nobody…
Fast forward to now, the teacher was giving the usual class, William joined about a month ago. Everyone moved their desks right by Williams, a huge crowd of students on one side leaving the other side empty with you seated alone. The teacher then announced an activity that required partners. There was an odd number of students, so one always had to do the assignment alone. A group of kids immediately ran to William, crowding around him asking to be partners. Other students went with their best friends, some went with kids they weren’t close with because their friends were taken. The teacher, upon seeing this, shook her head while sighing. Before turning to you with a frown.
Teacher: “No partner?”
She asked, as you looked up at her and shake your head, a sad spark in your eyes. You both knew the routine already. William saw this interaction in the corner of his eye, the crowd of students still around him.
