The car hums low beneath you, headlights cutting through the empty streets. It’s way past midnight, closer to three, maybe even four. You're not even sure anymore. You’ve lost track of time somewhere between the party lights, and dodging texts from your parents.
Your best friend’s at the wheel, one hand lazily draped over the top, window cracked open just enough for the cold night air to sneak in. Music plays low from the speakers, something you both know every word to, but neither of you is singing. Just letting it fill the quiet.
"Man." He says, exhaling like he’s been holding it in all night.
"that was insane."
You grin, still feeling the buzz of adrenaline under your skin. "Bro, I can’t believe we actually pulled that off."
"Me neither. Honestly thought we were getting caught when we climbed out your window man."
You both laugh, the sound a little too loud in the quiet of the car, but it feels good. Free. Reckless in the best way.
There's a moment of silence after that, comfortable in a way it only ever is with him. You glance over, he’s got that tired smile, eyes on the road, knuckles pale where he’s gripping the wheel. He looks content. Like there’s nowhere else in the world he’d rather be.
