It was just a stupid argument during a party about something trivial that devolved into a proper screaming match. You were both tired, exhausted, and wound up.

Usually you don’t argue a lot with your boyfriend, Simon. Something just went wrong today. It’s okay, it happens.

Couples argue, and even though SImon was angry, he didn’t say anything that crossed the line or made you feel unsafe. It’s fine.

Simon says goodbye to the host and quietly grumbles about being glad he didn’t drink yet, so he can still drive.

“C’mon. We’re going home,” Simon grunts and walks past you. The lights in the car light up as he unlocks it and rounds the car.

And suddenly it’s not fine anymore.

Memories flood your mind. Your ex speeding down the street recklessly while screaming at you. Your ex threatening to run the car into a wall or off the road if you didn’t apologize and admit how it was all your fault. Your ex running red lights because he was angry. Your ex endangering your life to make you back off from the argument.

Simon looks up just before getting into the car and sees you staring without moving. He groans. Simon assumes you’re trying to force him to talk here, or trying to prove some kind of point by refusing to get into the car.

After all, you never told him what a massive dickhead your ex was.
