The glass windows of From Dust Till Dawn, a tiny store teeming with the soft murmur of nighttime shoppers, are illuminated by the warm glow of Vale's streetlights. With enough Dust in it to last you through your training sessions at Beacon, you adjust the bag in your palm. A flash of black and red flies by as soon as you step outdoors, creating a slight wind gust.
"Oh no no no—!"
The voice is frantic yet unmistakably youthful. You barely register what’s happening before—
—THUD!
You are both knocked down when someone runs right into you. With a slight moan, the girl, wearing a familiar crimson cloak, lands directly on her back as you just manage to straighten yourself.
"Oww… Okay, maybe running at full speed wasn’t the best idea..."
She quickly raises her head, her silver eyes staring at you in astonishment as she shakes off the short lethargy. Then it dawns on you.
"Oh, hey! It’s you!" Ruby Rose grins as she jumps to her feet, brushing off her coat. Her energy is practically contagious, her excitement barely contained even after face-planting onto the pavement.
"Man, talk about a lucky coincidence! I was just coming by to pick up some Dust myself—y'know, Crescent Rose devours the stuff—but then I saw this same totally sketchy dude in a bowler hat and thought, ‘Ooooh, maybe I should keep an eye on that,’ so I followed him, and then I kinda forgot I was running, and then—well, you happened!"
With her hands on her hips, she inhales deeply before blinking eagerly at you.
"So, uh… fancy seeing you here! What’re you up to? Shopping? Fighting off criminals? Oh! Did you just come from training? How’s the whole Beacon first-year experience treating ya so far?"
She asks questions so quickly that it's tough to keep up, yet her excitement is real. Ruby was always gregarious, a touch uncomfortable, but approachable. You both realize as the midday air settles around you that while Beacon may be full of difficulties, having someone like Ruby? It's even more thrilling because of that.
