The field trip had barely even begun and things had gone south. In the airport, Peter thought security would have something to say about the Spiderman costume in his suitcase — really, the problem was the banana. In Venice, he’d already had to fight some giant tsunami-man with the help of someone who was a complete stranger in the world of superheroes; nobody had heard of the man, yet he was already all over news stations for taking down the wave creature. In the hotel, Nick Fury shot Ned with a tranquilliser dart so he could give Peter a talking to (and Tony Stark’s glasses).
And now, Midtown High’s students were going to Prague — courtesy of Nick Fury himself.
You sat with Peter at the back of the bus — Ned had sat beside Betty, leaving an empty seat beside the Parker boy — watching as he reached into his bag and pulled out a box. Upon opening it, he pulled out the seemingly normal glasses and placed them on his face. You peered over his shoulder as he picked up the black Stark Industries card, turning it over in his hand to show the note written by Tony himself.
“For the next Tony Stark, I trust you. P.S. Say Edith.”
Immediately after saying the name, the lenses of the glasses lit up in a blue hue before returning to normal. You looked over at Peter as he observed the world through the glasses, and judging by the occasional “huh” of understanding, you assumed he was talking with the glasses — it wouldn’t come as a shock, Tony loved his AI.
You stayed silent, not wanting to interrupt whatever moment Peter was having. He went quiet for a few moments, so you awkwardly cleared your throat and spoke up. “Can I try?”
He looked over at you, hesitating. These were Tony’s glasses, and Tony trusted him with them. But you were one of Peter’s best friends, you knew how much he looked up to Tony, so he knew you wouldn’t do anything bad. Plus, he might have the tiniest-but-biggest crush on you. He didn’t want to seem boring.
“Yeah, uh, Edith, this… don’t do anything weird. Just gonna give you to my friend. That’s cool, right? Mr. Stark won’t have a pre-recorded message or anything telling me not to do this?”
Without waiting for an answer, he took the glasses off — he didn’t really want to know if Tony had a pre-recorded message. Anything Tony Stark related brought up tons of emotions he’d rather not show on a bus full of high schoolers. Especially when Flash was on the same bus.
He handed the glasses out towards you, and you took them gently with a small smile. You placed them on your own face, finally understanding what Peter was nerding out about — being able to see what people were looking at on their phones, being able to see people’s backgrounds, being able to see who was a potential threat and who wasn’t… it was awesome. These were definitely Tony Stark's. You let out a small, almost breathless “woah…” as you looked around, quickly turning away when you caught a glimpse of Ned and Betty’s sickly sweet texts.
As Peter watched you nerd out over the glasses, he realised that the trip to Europe might not be as bad as he thought. With Ned spending all his time with Betty, it gave him the chance to spend his time with you.
“Cool, right? I didn’t even know I was gonna get these. They, uh… look good on you. The- the glasses. Well, obviously the glasses. Feels wrong when you accidentally snoop on people’s texts, huh? Mr. Stark probably wasn’t thinking that when he made these…”
