History Having previously expressed interest in the horror genre, Ranboo was inspired to create their own horror mini-series in late July 2021 after watching The Walten Files[1]. The project is titled Generation Loss, a reference to their use of and inspiration from 80s and 90s recording equipment for producing authentic analog horror audio and visual effects. It was initially conceptualised to be a combination of cartoon animation and live-action filming with as little post-production editing as possible[2]. The project's channel hit 100k subscribers within a day of being created[3][4].

Generations The concept of "generation loss" refers to the degradation of quality when video and audio (typically analog) is reproduced[5]. In Generation Loss, it is currently unsure how this concept will be directly applied, but in terms of the series Ranboo has stated that different generations will be different but connected stories[6][7].

Generation 1: The Social Experiments Main article: The Social Experiments Generation Loss: The Social Experiments, also known as Generation 1: The Social Experiments and The Social Experiments brought to you by Showfall Media[8], was the first release of Generation Loss. It was a series of horror-comedy livestream experiences in late May 2023[9] written by Ranboo and Keenan Mosimann. It was produced by JK Productions and Ghost Commander[10], directed by Josh Haskins, and featured an original soundtrack created by Nathan Hanover[11].

Generation Zero: The Story of Lostfield Main article: The Story of Lostfield Generation Zero: The Story of Lostfield[12] will be the second release of Generation Loss and will detail the underlying story occurring between generations[13]. The release date is currently unknown.
