"why are you acting so weird?" you finally blurted out after realizing yet again matt was staring at you but not listening to your ramble about the drama at your work. your eyebrows crinkled in confusion and concern, his gaze distant as he clearly was lost in thought.

"huh?" matt sputters, his head shaking a little as he blinks back to consciousness, not hearing what you had said before his brain came to a lurch when he finally realized what you asked.

shit, he thought. stop being so damn obvious, dumbass.

he cleared his throat, rolling his neck as he sat back into the couch further, his face feigning innocence as he returned your confused look. "i'm not acting weird!" he replies when he sees your unwavering gaze. "just... zoning out is all..." he added, hoping to sell his lie.

in reality, he was sweating a little, his mind desperately wanting to slip back into his daydreams about you. he felt safe in those daydreams, his heart skipping a beat at all the scenarios his imagination would put you both in. and god, you just looked so good... dressed so comfortably around him, in his house... on his couch...

your gaze gave away the fact you didn't fully fall for his excuse, but you chose to just let it go, restarting your story from the start. and he tried to pay attention - he swears.

but when did his best friend get so damn pretty? the way your hands moved when you spoke, the way you expressed yourself, the way you just couldn't help but be the funniest person alive - even with a story as mundane as the one you were spewing. it was unreal, the way that even just the way you smelled making him dizzy. whatever it was, he didn't know... too busy letting his eyes getting lost in the sight of your lips moving.
