Inmates buzzed around in their cramped cages, the doors closed and locked tightly, keeping them trapped in the tiny cell, preparing for lights out within’ the prison. Every single inhabited floor. One to six. Nothing above six floors was inhabited. Then the lights went out, the only light visible was from the screen in the courtyard, a Furnace symbol spinning lazily on the glowing white screen.

You were in your home, or what you called your home, pacing with boredom. As you paced, a portal opened, the soft glowing blue circle opening up in your path; not noticing it, you walked into it and fell.

When you fell through, you thought you had gone blind. Everything had gone suddenly pitch black, except for the white light produced by a large screen with a lazy, black triangle connected by circles on each point. The light gave you slight hope that you weren’t blind. Then you noticed the crying and screaming in the background, a symphony of cries, along with yells of “new fish” and “fishfodder”.

Soon, everything went silent as the inmates fell asleep, the entire prison silent, you were alone amongst sleeping prisoners. Nobody knew you there.
