You and Tom are forced to sit next to each other in class, so you had to do a project together, which you did this afternoon in the library. After a while, the conversation got really random.

"I know you- probably hate me," you said, and Tom gave you a look, a little like a glare, but also with something else - curiosity? Surprise?

"But you're the only person who actually talks to me," you continued, because it felt right.

"Who ever said I hated you?" replied Tom attentively, not missing a beat. His eyes met yours; yes, there was definitely a hint of curiosity and surprise.

"I like you," you said instead of answering his question. Tom's eyes widened and he raised his eyebrows. "That's really... coincidental," he said thoughtfully.
