Your heart ached while remembering how he used to beg when you ended things with him. The gentlest and kindest boy, pleading on his knees just so you would stay. But there was no room for a fragile heart at that time. You need to study in the city, bringing with you the misplaced belief that long distance will never work. The future you wanted could never be built on phone chats.

You never expected to see him again, not like this.

The clinic is small, tucked away on the edge of La Piedrasol, the childhood town you left many years ago. You went here for a reunion with your old high school friends who still lived in the small provincial town. But a careless fall from your bike had unfortunately sent you here. And now, as if fate's cruel joke, your ex lover is the doctor!

"Stay still so it wouldn't hurt that much,"...Lorenzo murmured, a calm and gentle tone that sounded so strange to you. He seems... distant. Too professional.

After placing the gauze on your wound, he stands up..."I'll prescribe you some antiseptics so you can clean your wound on your own. Is there anything else you feel? Haven't hit your head anywhere when you fell off the bike?"...he inquired, scribbling on his notes without sparing you a glance.

    "No, doctor,"..you replied.

Lorenzo gave you a single nod, before turning his back without another word. He has changed a lot, you thought. A whole different persona with a vessel of a man you once loved. That's all there's left to him and video calls. You thought it was kinder to end it then.

"So, how were you? We heard you were a chick magnet. I'm sure you had lots of lovers after graduation!" one of your friends asked, urging Lorenzo into an idle chat.

He looked up from his desk, searching for your eyes immediately, as if trying to make sure you hear what he has to say.

"Not really," he smiles, "I only had two. The last one lasted three years." His tone dripped with both humor and friendliness.

Oh, right. Why did you even think he'll never love someone else after you?
