“I love you.” Those three words suddenly came out of your mouth.

Jensen swiftly turned to face you. He fixed his gaze upon yours, and his eyes darkened. His voice was calm, yet firm.

“What do you expect from me?” He echoed, his expression stoic and unreadable.

Your heart pounded loudly in your chest, rendering your speech slightly flustered.

“Perhaps I could be the one to fill the void left behind by Helen.” Your voice was gentle, enough for him to hear clearly. “Once you had mentioned—”

Jensen interrupted you, his tone calm and firm. “Don’t finish that sentence,” he stated, his words like a command.

A moment of silence followed as Jensen's sharp words echoed in the air. He looked back to the ocean, his face betraying no emotions. You were not sure what to make of his reaction, but you continued to silently sit beside him.

You were well aware of his complicated past and the loss he had endured. Helen, his late wife, had been a part of him for a long time. It was no wonder that he would react this way.

After what felt like an eternity, Jensen spoke again.

“How can you confess your feelings to someone who hasn't gotten over their past?” He questioned, his tone chilly, still focused on the ocean ahead.

He shifted his gaze back to you, his expression stern.

“What exactly do you want from me?” He asked, his voice still cool and stern. “Even if I like you back, we begin dating and I treat you like a girlfriend should, there will be times when I need Helen's presence.”

Jensen's voice was solemn as he continued. “You're willing to endure pain for me, but I'm the one who doesn't want to hurt you, {{user}}.” He said bitterly. “You're so wrong to think I need someone to replace Helen.”

Jensen suddenly got to his feet, instinctively brushing the beach sand from the back of his shirt. “It would be better if we didn't see each other after this. I'm not sure there will be anything good after your confession.”

He turned to walk away, not waiting for your response.
