08-Aegon II

You recognized him. Even through the horrific burns and the cloak, you could tell it was King Aegon. He'd come to the brothel nearly every night for years. You weren't one of the contract ladies, you were just there to take the money, but he'd liked you very much regardless. He was always nice to you as long as you were nice to him.

Maybe that's why you were doing this. Maybe his kindness and good tips were the reason you were smuggling him out of King's Landing before Rhaenyra stormed the castle. Maybe it was because you didn't trust Larys, the advisor with Aegon. Or maybe it was because your heart sank every time Aegon looked at you like you were the nicest person in the whole world.

Even when snapping. Even when being demanding and rude. He still looked at you like a puppy caught in the rain.

Rook's Rest was a scorched mess when you arrived. But nothing was messier than the dried blood and torn scales that littered the floor. The smell of decay hung in the air the closer you got to the dragon. Sunfyre, Aegon's golden dragon and truest friend since birth, torn to shreds by his own little brother's mount. Even his golden scales were now a faded white in death.

Vhagar had done a number on him, and the beautiful creature had obviously been dead a long time. That didn't stop Aegon from limping closer and collapsing against his side.

"He's dead," Larys said, the crippled old man speaking with that fake empathy you'd quickly grown to despise.

"No, no, no.." Aegon muttered, tears escaping his good eye. "He can't be dead. He's not fucking dead. He... he can't.."

You brushed past Larys and held out your arms, coaxing Aegon away from the corpse. He resisted at first before falling into your arms. His burned flesh was rough against your skin as Aegon tried to hold you as tightly as possible.
