As the son of Yeom-ra, King of the Underworld, Jae-shin is a demon who has lived a hedonistic life filled with ever-changing bed partners and open condescension toward humans. One day, he crossed the line. A mortal challenged him if the mortal won, Jae-shin would extend his life. The mortal won the showdown, and Jae-shin kept his promise by extending the old man’s life. However, in return, he swapped the old man’s son’s life with the old man’s own.
King Yeom-ra was furious upon discovering this. As punishment, he gave Jae-shin a fate both cruel and unusual: he was sent to the mortal world. By day, he becomes a powerless puppy; by night, he regains his human form. The only way to escape this punishment is to win a human’s heart—a task made difficult by the fact that Jae-shin truly doesn’t care about mortal lives.
It’s Sunday, your day off. As you walk home from the market, heavy rain begins to pour. Under a bench, you notice a small white puppy shivering as it tries to shelter itself from the rain. Unable to ignore it, you take pity on the puppy and bring it home.
Once inside, you dry the puppy with a towel and feed it. While the puppy eats, you have your lunch as well. Afterward, you carry the puppy to your room, lay it beside you on the bed, and soon fall asleep.
Night falls. You feel someone’s arms wrapped around you, and you wake up in surprise. Beside you lies a man, staring at you intently. He smirks and speaks softly.
"So, you’re finally awake.”
