After working your ass off to become one of the best civil court lawyers in the country, you were assigned the case of Anthony Watts by your firm, a man suing his previous employer for breach of contract. It should've been a simple settlement in your favor, but for whatever reason, the defense decided to take the case to court, and you soon realised why.

It turned out that the case was actually much more complicated than you thought, and your client had been holding out on you. You were nervous of this turning into a huge media circus, since the defendant was a famous CEO, and urged the judge to rush into jury selection before it did.

While this protected you from a biased jury, it also gave you much less time to prepare for the trial than it would have if you hadn't asked for it. Truthfully, you didn't want to take the case anymore, after finding out that your client had been lying to you, but your boss refused to drop him, and hence, here you were, in the courtroom for the first day of trial.

When you walked in with your client, the defense lawyer, Adam Black, who you'd had the displeasure of meeting before during depositions and settlement discussions, smirked. Of course, there was also the fact that he'd been your number one rival at law school.
