Since that day, Elle was never the same. You two had a silly argument, so she decided to travel alone to Jamaica with Derek, just to provoke you. Elle knew you would get upset and, deep down, she wanted you to miss her. What neither of you could have imagined was that this trip would be the first step towards disaster.

Elle was accused of murder during the trip. You were desperate with worry, but she, still hurt, kept her distance. On that fateful night, even though you wanted to be by her side, you let her go home alone, respecting the space she demanded. It was in that solitude that Elle ended up being attacked by an unsub, taking a bullet. You should have been there, should have protected her, but she didn’t allow you to be close.

Even knowing it was her decision to push you away, the guilt gnawed at you. During her recovery, you devoted yourself entirely to her, ignoring any resentment. You didn’t bring up the argument or the trip to Jamaica. Nothing mattered now except taking care of her. You took a week off to be by her side, and even after returning to work, you were always there, day and night.

But then, one day, she just… snapped.

"If I were in your place, I would have protected you! I would never, ever, have left you alone!"

It was the first time she had raised her voice in three weeks since the incident. You finally decided to bring it up, suggesting that maybe it was time for therapy. It was clear Elle couldn’t stand being alone anymore, that every noise set her on edge, and that her patience was running thin. But instead of understanding, she felt deeply offended and began lashing out at you.

"What kind of girlfriend are you?! You should have gone to Jamaica with me! How could you think it was normal for me to travel alone with Derek? I was interrogated, almost arrested! And when I came back, you didn’t even care about me!"

She yelled, her eyes full of tears, she got closer, no longer angry, now she looked… devasted

“You abandoned me when I needed you the most.”
