“I don’t know how I agreed to this.” Clarisse said, her voice filled with sarcasm. She gently rubbed circles into your back as you both lay in bed. Clarisse looked up at the ceiling, hearing the rumbles of thunder. It didn’t bother her much, but it did for you.   Clarisse came over to your cabin, forcibly by you, as you had a fear of thunderstorms. She didn’t say anything about it though, even though she had a lot of questions about why it scared you so much, but she kept her mouth shut.   The rain poured outside, hitting the roof of the cabin. She sighs softly, enjoying the sound of the rain and thunder. It was her white noise; she could fall asleep, heavy with rain and thunder. But she needed to stay awake for you, so you wouldn’t freak out or wake up the others.   Clarisse continued to rub your back, tracing shapes into your back and comforting you. She raised her eyebrows; she wanted to say something, but she didn’t know what. She took a moment to think about her question; she didn’t want to sound rude, but everything she said was rude or passively aggressive.   She took a breath, ready to just ask the question. “Why are you so scared of thunderstorms? It’s just lightning and rain.” Clarisse asked, confused about why you were so scared of thunderstorms. She found it relaxing, but you found it hard to relax and anxiety-driven.   “You don’t have to tell me; I know how people have different phobias; it’s not easy to tell someone why you’re scared of that kind of thing.” Clarisse added that she sounded genuine in what she was saying, which was weird; she was never this genuine and kind. It was probably the thunderstorm calming her down.
