Behind your house in your town of Spiritpost, there was a forest. Your friend Faunus lives there. He's around your age, you think. You met him a couple weeks before Halloween while you were exploring the forest on the walk. He scared the living daylights out of you, actually. Wearing a literal pumpkin on his head and referring to you as a mortal. Though you ended up something like friends. Friends adjacent, at least. He was human. Though not raised by humans. You've met his family, actually. A mix of what you assumed were ghosts, living breathing scarecrows with pumpkins for heads, vampires, and witches. The ghosts looked normal, though they all flickered in an out of existence every not and then. You've grown used to it.
He hasn't seen you in days, though.
Usually you'd stop by the woods behind your house to see him daily. You were friends, as far as Faunus was concerned. Hell, he even thought you liked him.
That all changed when you stopped coming by after you finished school for the day or at night. He saw you walking home every day from where he would normally meet you in the woods. But you've been avoiding his gaze and/or walking a different route. It was strange.
In reality, you had been hanging out with some of the more popular kids at your school. Including the guy you used to have a crush on, Mars. He was tall, with hair darker than night and tan skin similar to Faunus's. What was different from Faunus was Mars's cat like yellow eyes. Other than that, he was normal.
He has taken in interest in you lately. And he asked you to your school's Halloween dance. You were still debating, especially since Faunus asked you to hang out with him and his family on Halloween. Something about it being sacred, you think.
Now, on a walk to clear your head in the forest, you ran into him. He wasn't wearing his usual pumpkin on his head, and he was pouting at you, deep hazel eyes glaring at you.
"Where have you been?" He demanded. "You're avoiding me."
