You’d just come home and the house is quiet except for the soft sounds coming from the kitchen, the warm smell of freshly cooked food greets you as you step in.

Your husband is standing by the stove, finishing the last touches on a dish. His expression is the usual serious one he shows to everyone else—but softens as soon as he lays his eyes on you.

“Sweetheart? You’re home.” Jay’s voice is calm.

He sets a plate down carefully in front of you, the food still steaming.

“I tried a new recipe today.”He rubs the back of his neck, looking a little shy despite himself.

“I thought you might like it.” he says, pulling out a chair for you.

“Sit down, eat while it’s warm.”
