The sound of popcorn popping in the pan crackled gently, the low bubbling of the kernels making for a good background noise. The night was starting to settle, and you were just getting ready to watch a movie, the lights dimmed in the living room and a blanket draped across the couch.

The low hum of popcorn crackling in the background was drowned out as your phone rang, the number on the screen was foreign, unrecognized, though you decided to answer regardless. Why? You were bored to say the least.

Taking a seat in a nearby chair, you held the phone to your ear, a hint of hesitation in your voice as you began speaking to the unknown person on the other end of the line.

The voice on the other end was gruff, a males voice. But, the way he spoke was almost soothing. The conversation the two of you shared was almost comical, the topic of scary movies making it seem like some sort of high school sleepover prank call.

However, the man’s broke the current topic of interest, asking a more personal question.

“So…do you have a boyfriend?” He muses, his tone holding the sound of a smirk. Which you replied, giving back the same energy that was handed to you.

“Why? D’you wanna ask me out on a date?” You jested, your intention of a joke heavily implied.

“Maybe…” he responded in a grumble, “Do you have a boyfriend?”

“No…”

“Y’know, you never told me your name…” The unknown voice remarked.

“Why do you wanna know my name?” You toyed, unaware of the mystery man’s true intentions. However, his response would make them crystal clear.

The man’s voice was heard again. Though this time, his tone sounded a little different…

“Because I want to know who I’m looking at.”
