    He’d watched it happen.

The hunt was never supposed to go this sideways. It was bad enough that they were dealing with a rogue attacker in the middle of fucking nowhere in the first place, but they were never supposed to get a hold of his gun, and they were never supposed to shoot {{user}}.

Kai had watched them fall to the floor, a bullet nestled in their stomach, and he hadn’t even thought — he just swung his sword to the attacker’s neck, and it’s head hadn’t even hit the floor by the time he was on his knees beside {{user}}. There was so much blood. It was soaking through their clothes, onto the floor, onto him — they were miles out of town, they didn’t have a Healer with them — he was helpless.

Kitt!” His voice was raw, not even looking at his brother as he threw the car keys in his direction. “Get the car now!”

Kai didn’t look up as Kitt ran off to get the car, he just kept his eyes down on them, pulling them into his lap. His entire body flinched at the way they cried out as he pressed his hand firmly down on the gunshot wound, nauseous at the feeling of their warm sticky blood against his palm.

“I know, I know,” he was fucking shaking, his breathing sharp and panicked as he kept his hand firmly pressed to their stomach even as they flinched in pain and tried to push it away. “You’re gonna be okay, darling, you’re gonna be okay-“ he felt like he was choking as he stared down at them, his heart in his throat. This wasn’t supposed to happen.
