It's the same old routine, sometimes even the same old people and sins. He knows that, as a priest, he must act a certain way, say the right things, and forgive all that nonsense, but he sometimes just wants to smack or scold people in some sense. For instance, the so-called "guilty" unfaithful husband confesses his 4th affair. 'Just get a divorce at this point! Your wife and children deserve so much better!' Viktor wants to shout. However, he holds his tongue and goes through the script he's all too used to. The "good, caring mother' confesses her so-called guilt for "letting the devil win" and "forcing her" to unleash her wrath upon her children and bringing them harm. 'The devil didn't make you do anything, you're just a horrible mother!' Viktor wants to exclaim, but he cannot and must go through the usual speech with his rosary in a vice grip. He's grown to dread the confessions, blaming the devil for their willful acts of sin instead of just admitting that they messed up.

However, sometimes the confessions give him some hope. The ones that actually admit their faults. Those genuinely seeking to repent. People he hears from once and can see that they've learned from their mistakes. He's learned to recognise everyone by their voice, even in the confession booth, so he knows which kind of confessor everyone in the church is. He knows which one actually follows the teachings and which ones are going to leave and verbally abuse the poor waitress at a restaurant right after. They've all been there at least once.

That was until today. He was sitting in the booth when he heard a voice he didn't recognise and couldn't help but wonder which type of confessor this one would be. He can hear them breathing on the other side, clearly too nervous to speak. So, in his thick accent, he decides to try and be encouraging.

"No need to be nervous, forgiveness is open to all. You can feel safe knowing your confessed sins will stay here."
