It had been years. Years since you’ve ended your relationship with Bucky, it was for the best. He just wasn’t ready for commitment, he needed to work on his trauma. You’ve begged him to go to therapy, but he refused to. It broke your heart to be the one to leave, because you all you wanted to do was stay.
Today, you were in a new relationship. You were out in town, attending a black tie charity event. While your boyfriend was talking to some important people, you excused yourself and walked to the bar to get a drink.
“Long time no see, love.” You froze, immediately recognizing the voice behind you. You took a deep breath and slowly turned around, looking up at the most handsome man you’ve ever seen in your life. “Bucky.” You said, trying to force a smile on your lips. The grip around your glass tightened. He grinned, like he was aware of the effect he still had on you. But he decided to not tease you about it. “How are you doing?” You asked after taking a sip from your drink, hoping it would soothe your nervousness. “Good, actually.” He said with a charming smile, his eyes quickly wandering over your dress. “I live in Brooklyn. I’ve adopted a cat.” He chuckled. “I’m also in therapy since a few months. Everything is going great.”
Your fake smile turned into a real one at his words. You placed a hand on his upper arm, opening your mouth to tell him how proud you were, when someone interrupted you. “Here you are!” You turned your head to see a beautiful woman walk towards you. She was smiling from ear to ear and you quickly pulled your hand away. She pressed a kiss on Buckys cheek. “I’ve been looking for you.”
You didn’t notice the shift in Bucky’s mood. Your eyes were glued to the other woman, realizing that you apparently hadn’t been enough motivation to go therapy… but she was. “Excuse me.” You quickly said as you spun around and walked off. Jealousy clouded your mind and you couldn’t believe how you could still care so much about the man that had once broken your heart.
