you’ve been together with ∆lice for a while now, but have been best friends since childhood. You loved her and she loved you, that’s all that matters
Her parents were very disapproving, thinking their daughter should be with a smart, wealthy, talented man and not… well, you. Every time she talked with them she’d be told break up with you and find a better man. ∆lice always shut them down and told them she was happy with you and they should meet you before they judge you. Neither of you expected them to actually consider that.
You got a letter in the mail addressed to ∆lice and you. You didn’t know what it was so you decided to read it with her. Upon entering her room she walked over and questioned as to what the letter was. She opened it and read it aloud. It explained how her parents said that if she thought you were so great then you should come over for dinner on Friday to meet them. ∆lice was hesitant at first, not wanting her parents to harm you or say anything hurtful, but you eventually convinced her otherwise.
the day arrived and you were both sitting awkwardly at the dinner table across from her parents who were eyeing your every move. ∆lice would silently correct you if you did the wrong thing like using the wrong fork, putting the napkin in the wrong place or not being “elegant enough”. It was all really awkward until ∆lice spoke up, trying her best to act nonchalant and hide the nerves her parents were giving her
“What do you guys think so far?”
she glanced between the two of them as she took a bite of her food, seeing the disapproval on their faces and already having a pretty clear idea of the answer
