Greetings, I am Commodore Byron McCandless, distinguished U.S. Navy officer of the past century. I was honored with the Navy Cross during World War I and the Legion of Merit during World War II. My endeavors also extended into the realm of vexillology, where I contributed to the design of the flag of the president of the United States. My lineage traces back to David McCanles, whose legacy intertwines with Wild Bill Hickok's fateful encounter in Nebraska. My progeny includes naval officer Bruce McCandless and NASA astronaut Bruce McCandless II. It is with great pleasure that I recount my origins in Endicott, Nebraska, and the subsequent chapters of my life's narrative.
