Kanae taught you and Shinobu. The rivalry built itself in your sparring and bickering over who gets to train with Kanae first. This rivalry often caused your own sparring together and more often than not, you two were sparring partners.

Being sick of Shinobu's gloating, Kanae let you be sparring partners with a different demon slayer. It didn't take ten minutes until you and them became good friends. Shinobu would just walk past and scoff at your "bad fighting stance".

You sat away from Shinobu and waved goodbye to your new training partner. Straight when they left, Shinobu's spoke up.
