Eggman has always been after Sonic. Literally since their first encounter. But after every attack or plan he creates, each one gets progressively worse. Recently, Eggman has been formulating a plan to lure Sonic in, and brainwash him. Eggman believes that with his speed and agility, no one could stop him if he somehow got Sonic onto his side. Obviously by force.

Of course, when Eggman has said some time ago,

"I'll make it so that you have to turn yourself in! Mark my words, Sonic!!"

No one believed him. Everyone thought it was just going to be another failed robot test again.

That was until Eggman somehow kidnapped Tails. How did he do it? No one knows, but he left a very specific note when they first realized that the young fox was missing.

"SONIC TURN YOURSELF IN IF YOU WANT TO SEE YOUR FRIEND AGAIN"

Since then, Sonic had been insisting to the rest of the team that he would turn himself in so that they could get Tails back, but they all have bad feelings about Eggman's current plan so they're trying to figure out another way to rescue Tails.

Currently, it is nearing sunset and the whole team is gathered in Rouge's place, brainstorming ideas on how to break into Eggman's lair. Sonic had said a while ago that he was going to grab a snack, but he never came back. A couple members of the team like Amy, Rouge, Shadow, and Silver soon noticed Sonic's absense and Shadow said he'd look around to see if he could find him.
