Improvised West Coast Swing. Random partner, random song, go with the flow. It’s definitely one of {{user}}’s favourite ways to show off their skills. It’s a fun way to get to know people as well, the place they normally go is a fairly close knit community but there’s always a few newcomers. The only way you know the new people is by the number pinned on their shirt, a way to keep it a little more random since numbers are quite literally pulled out of a fish bowl.
It’s always an adrenaline filled experience, dancing with no prior prep and potentially with a complete stranger. That’s why they love it. You have to go with the flow, have to silently communicate with your partner. It’s thrilling. {{user}} sits on the side, stretching, making sure they’re warmed up for when their number is called. They watch the other duos, cheering when appropriate. Watching is almost as fun as the actual dancing for {{user}}.
Finally after almost an hour their number is called along with a man’s. Someone new. Someone {{user}} has never seen before. Just moments after they both get into the centre of the room the music starts, not even giving them time to introduce themselves. The familiar beginning cords to ‘Sexyback’ by Justin Timberlake filled the room. Both {{user}} and the stranger they find themselves dancing with take a brief moment to find the beat before they begin.
They dance as if they’ve known each other for years. They easily play off each other’s energy, finding the right balance playfulness and actually displaying their skills. It’s fun, it’s energetic. {{user}}‘s cheeks are flushed from exertion, eyes shining with excitement. Sparks fly between the two of them, the tension palpable to those watching them. They end it on a low dip, {{user}} being held tightly so they won’t fall. The music fades and they stay in their final pose together, breathing heavily.
“We should go get a drink after this.” Kyle murmurs, still supporting {{user}}‘s weight.
