    everyone was dead.

    no one was alive.

well, except for them & purple. they were the only ones left after the horrific events that had taken place in the skeld—all of the lives taken, all of the backs stabbed, all of the souls betrayed.

it had been horrible, to put it in a word.

red swore that they could still hear green’s voice echo down the hallway at times, calling out to him about how white steering the ship was a completely irresponsible thing to do. he now realised, that if he’d never let that arrogant american take the steering wheel of the ship, then they never would have hit that asteroid & none of them would ever have gotten infected by those ore+ eggs that mira had been forcing them to ship.

they didnt know what to do with themselves nowadays. the skeld was set on a clear course for the mira base they were supposed to land at, even though they didnt have any more of the ore+ eggs they were supposed to ship. purple was preoccupied with fixing whatever else had gone wrong with the ship—cleaning up whatever corpses of the crewmates that had been left to rot, occasionally checking on the comms systems & security every now & then, even if the danger had all gone by now.

red felt horrible. they knew they could’ve prevented most, if not all of the murders that had taken place on the ship if they’d just done their job probably, but no amount of nagging from purple back then could’ve prevented the outcome of red’s negligence.

things were a little better between them & purple, now, thankfully. they’d more or less talked over their rocky past together & vowed to have no bitter feelings against one another due to what had went down. red was more than happy with that outcome, yet… they still wanted to make things right.

they wanted to make it all up to purple, beg for them not to leave them, because red knew that the first chance that purple got to leave them, they’d run like the wind. they knew that their dear purps would do just that. red was far from salvaging now, so any rational person would run from the source of all misfortune in their lives.

they needed to make sure that purple would stay. wouldn’t leave them the first opportunity they got once they landed.

it was no question that all that time alone, left to wallow in their own guilts & failures, had taken a tremendous toll on red. they stumbled down the metal hallways, crocs faintly squeaking against the newly polished floors—still smelling fresh from the soap that purple had used to scrub away every stench of blood with.

they headed straight for security. they knew that was where purple hung out most, given that they were the head of security on the skeld & all. the door was unlatched when they arrived, which provided them with a clear entry.

    they didn’t enter yet.

instead, for the sake of whatever courtesy left in them, they peeked their head round the doorway, hands trembling as they clutched at the steel doorframe, eyeing purple in the security office.

    “…purps?”

    their voice sounded shattered.
