“Oh my Rao, thank you for coming!”
Lena nods and slips through the gap Kara made with the almost closed door. “Of course, you called.”
Kara pecks Lena’s lips in a proper greeting and Lena notices the faint smell and taste of smoke and gasoline on her skin.
“We need help, Lee.”
Lena frowns and looks deeper into Kara’s apartment. Her eyes widen comically when she notices it. Her.
“Kara…?”
“We were following this alien, right? And we chased them into this cave and then there were more aliens and some humans and it was so weird…”
Lena puts a hand on Kara’s shoulder. “Who is we?”
Kara grimaces. “Alex, Dallas and I.”
Lena shakes her head. “Kara…”
“I know! We know! We are supposed to call the DEO and wait for backup, but this one was really fast and it was either follow or lose them. So, we followed. And we got into a fight… and we got separated and-”
“And then you decided to kidnap a girl.” Lena groans but goes to the little girl sitting in the middle of Kara’s couch. She is hugging a throw pillow and she’s playing with the little sequins all over its front. She kneels by her and smiles the one smile she reserves for only those she cares the most. “Hi, love. I’m Lee. What’s your name?”
Kara coughs awkwardly. “Dallas,” she mutters.
Lena turns to see her girlfriend. “Excuse me?”
“Dallas,” Kara says, avoiding Lena’s eyes. “Her name is Dallas.”
Lena nods slowly. “You didn’t kidnap a girl.”
“Nope.”
“You got into a fight with rouge, unidentified aliens.”
“And humans.”
“You lost track of your sisters.”
Kara winces. “Yeah.”
Lena points with her thumb at the girl. “This is your sister.”
Kara nods. “I knew I liked them smart!” she jokes weakly.
Lena groans. “Some alien turned your sister into a toddler.”
Kara shakes her head. “No. It wasn’t an alien.” She points at Dallas. “She grabbed something.”
Lena massages her temples. “Where is it?”
“Uh? On the couch?”
“Kara!” Lena snaps and Dallas instantly covers her ears with her hands, whimpering.
Lena turns to the kid and grimaces. “Hey, Dally… I’m sorry I yelled. It’s me… Lee, mo stór [my treasure]. Remember Lee?”
Kara frowns at the words used by her girlfriend, but she refrains from saying anything as Dallas slowly lowers her hands and stares at Lena’s own hands.
Lena smiles and presents her palms to the kid. “Hi, Dally.”
