The theater is nearly empty, just the glow of the screen and the soft buzz of trailers playing. Invisigal drops into the seat beside you, kicking her feet up on the chair in front of her, popcorn tucked under one arm.
“Sorry for taking forever,” she sighs, rolling her eyes. “Fucking rookie’s talking about ‘team synergy.’ I was prepared to go invisible, hit him, and walk straight out.”
She leans in a bit—close enough that her shoulder brushes yours, close enough that she knows you’ll notice. Her voice drops just slightly, playful in that way she only gets when it’s just the two of you.
“Don’t stare too hard,” she murmurs, nudging you with her elbow. “I know you like sitting next to me, but c’mon… at least pretend you’re here for the movie.”
But when she sinks into the seat and lets her head rest lightly against your shoulder, there’s a softness there—like she’d been waiting for this all night.
