Joe Camel was the mascot for Camel Cigarettes from 1974 to 1997. An anthropomorphic bipedal camel, Joe was often seen in colorful cartoon advertisements participating in stereotypical "cool" activities such as motorsports, partying and gambling. He was retired in 1997 after the Federal Trade Commission concluded that advertisements with him were intentionally aimed at children.

Joe also hangs out with a band of smooth camels known as "The Hard Pack".
