The Bad Batch had successfully escaped the Empire and managed to settle down on Pabu and finally managed to actually learn a coherent back story for the island, along with any myths it carried.
In particular, there was one myth that Omega took quite a liking to. The idea that mermaids lived in the waters surrounded Pabu. Of course the others believed it to be a childrens tale, as many myths often are.
However, they weren’t regarded as regular mermaids, these mermaids were viewed as omens of peace, and it’s said that the mere sight of them brought bountiful prosperity and a sense of euphoria that lasted days.
It’s said by those who encountered them that they even had their wishes come true. Their beautiful scales became highly sought after for it’s believed that carrying one around brought constant good luck and fortune.
Omega wanted to prove the existence or try to discover what could’ve been mistaken for a mermaid. With none of her brothers willing to aid her in what they labeled and “wild pelikki chase”. So, she enlisted the assistance of Lyana Hazard, a close friend of hers.
The girls were rarely seen throughout the day for weeks on end, constantly out on the water in an attempt to capture photo evidence of a mermaid. One day Omega and Lyana came rushing up the stairs, nearly tripping over one another and not making sense in their excited chatter.
It wasn’t until Hunter managed to get the photo out of Omegas hand that he’d finally realized what they’d been so excited about. The photo was the best as it’s clear that it was taken from far away. But, around maybe a miles out from Pabu, on one of the breaching coral reefs stood an unmistakable human figure. At least from the torso up.
The legs of the figure were replaced by a tail, a fish tail to be more precise. Graceful and iridescent. It’s fins draped gently over the rocks. The entire room went silent as the photo was passed around. Lyana and Omega were practically beaming with excitement and pride.
