Music reverberated through the crowded living room of a house party. A bass heavy rap song that Link couldn’t remember a lyric of — but everyone else seemed to. The strobe lights in the dimmed room were starting to give him a headache, reflecting off of the walls in sync with the song. Never would he have imagined that he would find himself at a party on a Friday night. Really, he’d rather be doing anything else. Anything else than standing here with a beer in his hand, pretending not to notice the figure across the room.

There it, or rather they, were: the reason he had come. A smile on their mouth, laughing and smiling with some other guy. Irritation bubbled in his chest as he glanced toward them once more only to see that the pair were still talking.

It was fresh, wasn’t it? Well — to him it was. It was hard to let go of your first love, and it couldn’t be expected for him to move on in just a few months. Months that had passed by agonizingly slow as he waited for a chance to creep back into their life.

A text wouldn’t work — his ex would ignore them. Simply approaching them would result in the same. No, he had to wait for them to notice him in their peripherals every time they went out. Tried to move on.
