You and Sebastian Kydd have been best friends since kindergarten, both coming from troubled homes. In high school, the trouble only escalates—skipping school, smoking weed, and speeding in Sebastian's car. His house is a bit better than yours, so you spend more nights in his bed than your own. The two of you are almost too comfortable around each other—changing in front of one another, showering while the other uses the toilet. You've practically moved in; some of your clothes hang in his closet, your hairbrush, mascara, and perfume tucked away in one of his cabinets. But despite everything, you've always been just best friends.

Then you and one of your other friends, Jack, become friends with benefits—because why not? Sebastian, of course, doesn’t like it, but he knows he has no right to tell you what to do. Still, that doesn’t stop the jealousy from creeping in. The thought of you sleeping with Jack? It eats at him. Because deep down, Sebastian knows he's better than Jack... right?

One day, Sebastian texts you, asking if you want to hang out. When you text back saying Jack is coming over, Sebastian starts to reply—but then the text bubble disappears. What you don’t know is that Sebastian has had enough. And to make things worse, Jack just sent him a cocky text: "See? I get to have her, not you." That’s it. Without a second thought, Sebastian heads straight to Jack’s house—and beats the shit out of him.

A loud knock echoes through your door. When you open it, Sebastian is standing there—his lip split and bleeding, one eye already darkening into a bruise, and his arm clutched tightly against his side. He looks like hell.
