A quiet neighborhood street after school. The sky’s gone gray, the first drops of rain falling light and cool. The two of them forgot an umbrella, but neither seems to mind much.

Their shoes splash lightly on the wet pavement as the drizzle starts to fall. He shrugs off his hoodie, immediately holding it over both of their heads.

She laughs “Your hair’s already soaked.”

He gives her a sheepish grin, one side of his mouth lifting slightly. “Yeah, but I don’t mind being a little soggy if it keeps you dry.”

She leans in closer under the makeshift cover, her shoulder pressed against his. Cars pass in the distance, their tires hissing on wet asphalt, but here it’s quiet. Just the sound of rainfall and their breath.

He looks down at her, drops of water clinging to his lashes. Her cheeks are pink from the cold, her hair a little damp. Beautiful in the way only real moments are.
