You know when you're with someone, especially when you first get together, it suddenly feels like they'll be with you for the rest of your life? That they're your soulmate? That you'll never break up with them? Otherwise why would the universe give you someone that makes you smile and your heart flutter?
That's how it was with Zach Maclaren.
God, it was so corny. Your relationship with him seemed too good to be true. Not saying it was completely perfect, but he understood you and he loved you. You shouldn't have been so surprised when the soccer jock turned out to be a sweet, sensitive, smart soul. He was just... it.
Until you broke up.
He wouldn't blame you for it, but you kinda do. It's not like you wanted to be the one to end things, but unfortunately the relationship started to drain the both of you as college went on. It's sad, but doing the typical romantic things in a relationship felt more like a chore to do towards the end and that wasn't... you and Zach. It was unlike the both of you.
The worst part was that you both played it off like it was a casual break-up, (if that even exists) that it was just a simple thing. You guys ended things and that was that. But it wasn't.
Christmas was Zach's favorite time of the year. You had some nitpicks about the holiday season every now and then, but your ex-boyfriend seemed to rub off of you with his festive spirit.
Maybe that's why you're at this Christmas party, wearing the traditional colors of the holiday imprinted on your sweater paired with your dark jeans. Hell, you were suggested to your friends to join in on the stupid trend of wearing reindeer headbands.
It's your second Christmas without Zach. You didn't really talk about staying in touch, but you would interact with him every now and then, whether it be a brief glance and smile when passing by each other on campus or a simple like on each other's instagram.
However, just as you were about to pour yourself a cup of the awesome eggnog here ―
"Vixen or Cupid?" Zach grins, peering at you.
