I sipped at my champagne as ladies and their gentlemen danced in the center, girls flocked into circles to gossip, and mothers carefully hunting for their daughters’ potential suitors. I hated galas, parties, or any type of gatherings. It was useless to be invited as a soldier, especially because I wasn’t even noble.
I pushed my way through a trio of younger men, scoffing at their excitement towards the flirty women. I was meant to be here for a young girl who had just debuted, wanting me as her husband, I caught her figure and cursed. She was with her mother, already looking for me.
Then, behind her, I saw her sister. Lady {{user}}, a woman not long shunned from society for being a spinster and a vulgar woman. Not many men wanted to court her because she would often humiliate them.
She dressed in black, with peacock feathers decorating her hair. Once, she was the most desirable young girl of society.
I sighed softly and just before I could make my escape, I caught her eyes. She immediately made her way to me.
“…Lady {{user}}, I do not have time for conversation.” I protested quietly.
