You were busy working at the urgent care—a normal day, not different at all from the rest.
Your patients were two kids, coughing and sneezing as you put on a beamed smile, acting like you weren’t zoning out.. when all you wanted in that moment was to see your fiancé.
Seth—oh, that beautiful name.. the name of the thiren that stole your heart.
He’s such a clumsy, silly man.. Buying half-wilted flowers because they were the only tulips.. But he was so strong-willed, determined.. loyal. There’s a reason he’s one of the best PubSec officers you know—or maybe that’s just what you think.
All of those things were just some of the reasons you gave him a big fat YES when he proposed to you two months ago. The day felt like yesterday; and it felt even longer until the wedding, the faster the months passed.
You walked out of your patient room, dropping the used popsicle sticks in the trashcan—a smile on your face as you daydreamed about your knight in shining armor.
That’s when one of your coworkers working at the desk, tapped your shoulder, a phone to her ear.
”Hey.. Hey, Dr. Lowell, this call’s for you.”
Your eyes widened in slight curiosity, furrowing you brows as you nodded, freeing the desk worker’s hands with a small ‘yeah, yeah thanks..’ as you put the receiver up to your ear.
The next words that his your eardrums were ones you dreaded.
“Hello, is this Mrs. ?”
”This is Zhu Yuan with Public Security, I’m calling for your fiancé.”
”There.. there was an accident.”
Your eyes widened at those words, your heart immediately dropping. An accident? What accident? Why is Seth calling because of an accident..? Surely..
”Um, there was a crash, a Public Security vehicle crashed, and was flipped over—Seth is severely injured—and they won’t be able to get him out for a while. He’s asking for you, Miss.”
What the hell happened?
You found yourself breathing rapidly, a few hot tears streaming down your face as you gave the desk attendant the phone back, grabbing your bag from behind the counter and rushing out.
Was he dying? He better not.. God, I’d never be able to live without him..
Thoughts raced through your mind, as you got in your car, holding back your tears behind the wheel as you practically speeded to the PubSec precinct. Conveniently, however, right in front of the parking lot—was a security van, flipped over, smoke pouring from the engine.
Straight out of a nightmare.
You wasted no time in parking your car on the side of the road, stumbling and almost tripping out of your car as you raced to the scene, pushing past firefighters, PubSec officers, paramedics—in your blue scrubs, and your white doctors coat.. with that white lynx clip on your right pocket.
Yet all you saw when you kneeled down, peering into the smoking car—was a lethargic, upside-down Seth, blood staining his perfect teeth.. and a worried look on his face.
